Turkeys
Raising healthy turkeys is a difficult task, but doing so sustainably
takes tremendous skill, which is why we are diligent when choosing
farmers to grow for us. All of our farmers raise their birds without
antibiotics and hormones. To do so, they must maintain a low stress
environment that allows the turkeys to exercise their natural
instincts, and provide them with plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Our
farms must also employ an integrated, or cyclical, farming system,
which is the mark of sustainable agriculture. For example, many of our
farmers raise crops, in addition to turkeys, so manure can be composted
and used as fertilizer. Finally, we insist that a manager is onsite at
our farms, who works hands-on with the turkeys, ensuring that potential
problems are spotted early on.
