Organic Smoked Turkey Breast April 17, 2012

This product is tasty, however it never seems to be consistent with the texture and thickness. Also, I think my co-op is dis-continuing it, or are you re-working this product?

Organic & Natural Programs September 27, 2011
Reviewer: Applegate *.
Dear Craig, Please know we don’t have any conventional products, all of our products are natural or organic. Since non-GMO grain is limited, we try as much as possible to use in our natural program but unfortunately we cannot guarantee it all of the time in the natural as we have to guarantee for organic program. You can see that is our one difference in the programs here: http://www.applegatefarms.com/applegatestandard.aspx

Corn and Soy Fed September 21, 2011
Reviewer: Craig F.
Very disappointed to hear your turkey and chickens are GMO Corn Fed, and GMO Soy Fed. I used to buy your products, but once I heard you use these feeds because they are cheaper and heavily subsidized by the government i was really disappointed. Just by using that one word "subsidized", you pretty much told me its GMO (Genetically Modified Organism). I will continue to eat your beef because its grass fed, but no longer will I eat the turkey and chicken. Try a little harder Applegate..

Corn and Soy Free Products March 22, 2011
Reviewer: Applegate *.
Dear SM- All of our pork and poultry are fed a diet of corn and soy. In addition, our natural beef products come from cattle that may have had their diet supplemented with corn. Only our Organic beef products are always 100% grass-fed. Please note that when manufacturers say their meat products are corn and soy free, they are referring only to ingredients in the product – not what the animals were fed. Even animals raised entirely on pasture often have their diets supplemented with corn. Hope this helps! Thank You!

Applegate Response... March 17, 2011
Reviewer: S M.
The ingredients in your poultry products do not list soy or corn in the product, but since it's in the feed shouldn't it be listed for those with allergies? Most products do under the ingredients saying Contains: Corn, Soy, Dairy, Gluten etc. Even though your Beef is Grass-fed is it solely grass or is their soy and or corn in their feed as well. What about your pork products? For instance Bacon or Deli Ham? Since I absolutely can not have corn or soy and that includes animals that are fed with those ingredients, it's something I need to know about everything I eat. Again thank you for your response and honesty about your products.

how our animals are raised - and why March 17, 2011
Reviewer: Applegate *.
Dear SM and Jon P.,
Thank you for supporting our company and posting your concerns. To best answer your question, it’s important to know how our animals are raised - and why. The family farmers in our network are mid-sized and raise several thousand turkeys and chickens at a time. At this scale, it's impossible to raise animals entirely on pasture.
With the exception of beef, our farmers raise their animals in barns with controlled access to the outdoors, which protects them from predators and inclement weather, and allows the farmers to monitor the feed and water they receive.
Our poultry is fed a mixture of soy, corn and wheat with some added vitamins and minerals. Feed makes up most of the cost of raising animals, and corn and soy, both subsidized crops, are readily available and reasonably priced. Feeding animals grain that’s less abundant would greatly impact the cost of our products.

Very tasty, but… March 17, 2011
Reviewer: Jon P.
Hi Applegate, I am really rooting for your success because you do so many things right. I have to add my voice to the chorus of encouragement to shift from corn-fed/grain-fed to grass-fed/pastured. You will be ahead of the curve (as you are with beef) and it will be a huge growth opportunity for your company. You will get so much acclaim from the growing paleo movement, as you are for your beef. Lower sodium options would also be welcome. Keep up the good work, and keep your eye on the future.

Disappointed in Corn Fed Turkey-Chicken March 17, 2011
Reviewer: S M.
I was so excited when I was told about your company. I am ill and can't have soy or corn as part of my diet making it so difficult. I love that your beef is Grass fed but don't understand why you wouldn't do the same for all your meats Corn is bad for so many reasons! Frustrated all over again, will buy your beef products and wait for your company to hopefully do what the customer wants and Grass fed all your animals.

Really? Corn fed? WHY? December 18, 2010
Reviewer: Howie B.
Please for the love of all things holy- sell a product that is NOT corn fed. REALLY? Yes. REALLY. Why? Because corn is a genetically modified organism... thank you MONSANTO CORPORATION. I do not want to eat ANYTHING that IS gmo or has been fed gmo. Why? Wiki or google the dangers of GMO. CORN = GMO. Please stop feeding your chickens corn and other 'grains'. Monsanto corporation has a stronghold on your industry don't they? Yeay- no anti-biotics. Yeay- the chickens roam free. BOOOOO the chickens are fed corn!! WHY? Please, please consider other feed for these wonderful birds. I don't want GMO in my body. Thank you.
