Organic Sunday Bacon

At Applegate, we know that no food is as tempting as good old-fashioned country bacon. That’s what led us to create our famous Sunday Bacon in the first place. We’ve taken the same classic recipe, which the New York Times hails as “Superb...” and have brought Sunday Bacon to a whole new level of health and sustainability.

Bacon... December 18, 2011

Reviewer: Andrea S.

...That makes me SO happy, I laugh while it cooks! Elevates brussel sprouts to new heights; adds a fabulous smokey dimension to my spicy bison stew; and is awesome on its own...I save the drippings and use sparingly in many dishes...Thanks for a superior product!

Staple December 1, 2011

Reviewer: Jared L.

Doesnt matter what we cook for breakfast, if it is on the go or preped a day or two before; Sunday Bacon is a must. Only Bacon my family eats. We eat very clean so good fat is a must in moderation of course. This bacon is clean and the taste is out of this world; love it!

No Sugar Please! November 23, 2011

Reviewer: Alicia J.

WOuld have given it 5 stars except for the sugar. I read another review that says the sugar is for the curing and after it 'reacts' with the celery powder there is none left. I don't believe it. I soaked your bacon in salt water to pull the sugar out and then, only then it did not stick to the pan. I hope you can be a leader in producing meat products without the sugar. We don't need sugar in everything. Love your other products, you're a good company - but we don't buy any meats with sugar in them.

Love it! October 8, 2011

Reviewer: Lisa S.

I'm very picky about what meat I eat because I want to know where it came from and how it was raised. Applegate Farms is the only big name company I know that does that and it's the only company I buy from other than local farms. The bacon lives up to the same great quality I'm used to and so glad there is now an organic option.

very tasty, very natural, very healthy. thanks for ALL of your great meats and cheeses. I often combine the bacon in recipes, or on sandwiches, in salads... but love it for breakfast! Especially on Sundays. The smell of it makes me smile.

Celery Powder September 7, 2011

Reviewer: Applegate *.

Dear Alexandra, Right now we don’t have a supplier for an Organic version of Celery Powder, can’t find it produced. I appreciate you only eat organic, but please know it’s less than 2% of total product. Hope that helps!

Why not ORGANIC celery juice/powder September 6, 2011

Reviewer: Alexandra H.

I know it's available. I eat totally organic. When you added non organic celery powder to the bacon, I quit eating it. Then for a while you used organic celery (it said so on the package). You use organic in the sausage why not in the bacon?

Best Bacon EVER! June 7, 2011

Reviewer: Jane K.

I grew up in Iowa and have had my share of port products including bacon. The sunday bacon was FANTASTIC! Tasty and more meat than fat which is key for me

Nice diced! June 1, 2011

Reviewer: Lisa C.

I like having a little (healthy) pork in a 10-bean soup or black eyed peas with collards. This bacon filled the bill!! And 20 grams of fat for an entire pot of soup? You can't beat it. I'll definitely buy this bacon again!

Happy meat May 25, 2011

Reviewer: Sophia K.

I am not a believer when it comes to packaging. I had to do the research. I followed my meat with the tracker. The fact that all the meat is free range and happy makes me happy to feed it to my kid. Its the best stuff out there and its not super expensive. The fact that Applegate also responds to concerns won me over too!

Natural Curing Process May 11, 2011

Reviewer: Applegate *.

Dear Viktoria - Please know that the cane syrup and celery powder are both needed as part of the curing process. When they react together, you’re left with sugars at 0 grams. Also, we have certain restrictions and rules upon us regarding how we label items, we’re never trying to trick our customers, we know you’re smart and on the ball! Hope this helps and thanks for caring about your food.

Naturally Occurring May 11, 2011

Reviewer: Applegate *.

Dear Amy - We’re always looking for ways to make our products safer for the food allergy and sensitive community, but in this case (at least for the short to medium term), we don’t have any plans to change our curing process with celery juice and sea salt – but also please know that all animal proteins are made up of amino acids that contain naturally occurring nitrites and nitrates. Thanks!

GOOD STUFF May 11, 2011

Reviewer: VIKTORIA M.

I really like this bacon but don't buy it anymore because of the sugar. Why do organic food companies think that we're so stupid that we won't know that "Organic Evaporated Cane Juice" is just plain old SUGAR?!?!?

Hoping... May 10, 2011

Reviewer: Amy W.

Do you make any bacon that isn't made with celery juice and sea salt? For many of us, it has the same effect as sodium nitrite, and I know otherwise you have a really quality product.

Best Bacon April 30, 2011

Reviewer: E W.

I stopped buying bacon because other brands had bad cuts and I didn't want all the artificial nitrates. I finally tried Applegate and it's great! The cuts are usually very good with a nice balance of meat and fat. The slices are thin, which makes for a great and crispy bacon! I just wish it were cheaper. Hopefully Applegate will have some good coupons soon!

Only Natural Cuts April 25, 2011

Reviewer: Applegate *.

Dear PV - Our pork comes from pigs that have been raised humanely. As part of the natural cycle, pigs are generally leaner in the summer and a bit fattier in the winter months. Conventional products are raised in temperature controlled areas and are fed additives that make this balance consistent. Since we do not use any of those methods and only grow them natural this is an added effect. Thanks for asking!

So delicious! And safe for Celiacs! April 17, 2011

Reviewer: Ann R.

With Celiac plus a casein and soy allergy, commercial bacon (which often times has wheat and soy as a filler) was sadly not on my radar any longer. Thankfully, I came across a package of this bacon at my grocery store and literally squeeled with delight after seeing the words "Gluten Free & Casein Free" printed right on the front of the package! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven, until I got home and cooked some of this up, to which then I really thought I had gone to heaven. The meat is delicious!!! Yes, it has some fat and sodium, but hey, it's bacon, it's not supposed to be free of those things. I love Applegate for so many reasons, but especially because they take extra care to make all their packaging easy to read and produce safe and delicious products for Celiacs. Thank you, Applegate!
